Short stay or national visa?

Applying for a visit while presenting a long-term employment or study plan creates a purpose conflict. Choose the real activity even when the national process takes longer.
Complete the pre-visa dependencies
A work application may require a contract, recognised qualification, comparability evidence or permission to practise. An EU Blue Card file requires the current national salary and qualification test. A student needs admission and funding evidence. A trainee needs an eligible training agreement and language evidence where required. Family cases rely on the sponsor’s status and civil records.
Do not wait for an appointment before beginning recognition or civil-document work. These are often the slowest parts of the case.
Use the current Nigerian filing channel
Germany has expanded digital national-visa applications through the Federal Foreign Office Consular Services Portal, while other categories may use an appointment and document process specified by the German missions in Nigeria. Procedures can change, so begin from the mission’s current visa page and follow its link.
Do not buy appointment access. The mission or authorised service provider identifies legitimate booking, fees and location. A third party cannot move an applicant to a legally privileged queue.
Assemble a German application file
- Complete the correct form and declarations with consistent personal history.
- Provide the valid passport, photographs and identity or civil records required.
- Add the route anchor: contract, admission, training place or family authorisation.
- Include qualifications, recognition and professional licensing evidence.
- Document funds, accommodation and health insurance in the specified form.
- Arrange translations and authentication according to the checklist.
- Keep a complete digital copy and appointment receipt.
German authorities value a file that is complete and easy to verify. A long cover letter cannot compensate for missing eligibility evidence.
Decision and post-arrival steps
Processing can involve German authorities such as the local foreigners office or Federal Employment Agency. Do not make a non-refundable relocation commitment merely because the employer’s part was accepted.
