Short stay: identify the represented authority
Netherlands Worldwide publishes how residents of Nigeria submit short-stay applications. Representation can depend on location and destination arrangements, so follow the current Nigeria page instead of assuming every Dutch file goes to the same centre.
A short-stay application uses Schengen purpose, finance, insurance and return evidence. It is not a way to collect a residence card or begin ordinary work.
Long stay: obtain the IND decision
For many stays longer than 90 days, the sponsor or applicant applies to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service for an MVV and residence permit. Employers or educational institutions often submit as recognised sponsors.
Wait for the positive IND letter and read where the MVV sticker must be obtained. Netherlands Worldwide states that an applicant can use the Dutch Consulate General in Lagos only when the IND decision identifies Nigeria.
Book the MVV sticker appointment
The current Netherlands Worldwide instruction directs applicants to email the Consulate General in Lagos with the V number and contact details. A highly skilled migrant should include the employment start date; accompanying family should be identified in the same request.
The appointment must be requested within the decision letter’s period. Current guidance states that an applicant has three months after the positive IND decision to apply for the MVV sticker. Do not buy an unofficial slot.
Bring the correct documents
Where the sponsor filed, the appointment normally requires the passport and copy, compliant photograph, positive IND letter or applicable institutional message, and every additional document named in the decision. The passport must meet the current validity and blank-page rules.
Family members applying together must attend where instructed. The passport is retained while the sticker is prepared, so do not schedule other international travel during that period.
Check names and dates in the IND letter before the appointment. If the passport changed during processing, contact the responsible authority in advance instead of assuming the sticker can be placed without updating the case.
Collect, verify and travel
Netherlands Worldwide currently advises that sticker processing can take up to ten working days. Wait for the collection message and check the name and validity at the counter.
After travel, collect the residence card when instructed, register with the municipality, arrange insurance and complete any tuberculosis test or sponsor obligation identified by the IND. The MVV sticker is an entry document, not the final residence card.
