Verify the legal identity
Match the brand name, website, invoice and bank recipient to the legal entity in the proposed contract. For a Nigerian entity, the Corporate Affairs Commission public search can help confirm registration details. Registration confirms an entity’s existence; it is not a licence to practise immigration law and does not prove quality.
Check the physical and digital footprint independently. Use the organisation’s official domain, verify contact details through more than one channel and confirm that the person negotiating can bind the named company. Ask for the legal entity, registration number and service address in writing.
Check who gives regulated advice
Professional regulation depends on the country and type of service. If the provider claims to give legal or regulated immigration advice, identify the individual adviser and search the relevant regulator’s current public register. A company registration, training certificate or membership logo may not equal professional authorisation.
Ask who will personally assess the case, where that person is authorised, what work is delegated and who carries professional responsibility. Verify a claimed registration from the regulator’s own site rather than through a screenshot supplied by the company.
Compare scope, price and refund terms
Request written terms before payment. The scope should identify the route, deliverables, client responsibilities, excluded work, timeline assumptions and what happens if circumstances change. Separate the professional fee from government charges and third-party costs.
Check when each instalment becomes earned, whether the fee changes after a refusal or request for evidence, and which events qualify for a refund. “No visa, no fee” can still contain significant exclusions. The contract–not a sales call–should explain them.
Never let a provider submit invented work history, altered financial evidence or a form you have not reviewed. The applicant remains responsible for the truth of the application.

Recognise important warning signs
- a guaranteed visa, job, appointment or decision;
- pressure to pay immediately to a personal or unrelated account;
- refusal to name the legal entity or individual adviser;
- a job offer sold without direct employer verification;
- instructions to hide facts or use altered evidence;
- government fees combined with professional fees without a breakdown;
- no written scope, complaint route or refund terms;
- requests for unnecessary passport, banking or account-login data.

Does CAC registration make a company an authorised visa agent?
No. It confirms corporate registration, not government affiliation, immigration-law authorisation or service quality.
Can a visa consultant guarantee approval?
No. Only the responsible authority decides. A guarantee is a serious warning sign.
Why are editorial and reader ratings separate?

What should I receive before paying?
